Technology has greatly changed just about every aspect of our daily lives. The use of and effects of technology are so vast and encompassing that most of the time we don’t even realize that there once was a time when people didn’t have many of the technologies that we take for granted today. It’s amazing to see how far and quickly we have advanced in even the last 50 years. Take a second and look around, everything has in one way or another been affected by technology and the advancements made within that field.
Communication is a great topic when talking about how technology has affected our lives on a day to day basis. To imagine a time when the only way to communicate over long distances was to write a letter or send a messenger seems a bit ridiculous. Today I can send a text or make a phone call to about anywhere in the world. Phones, computers, and transportation have greatly changed the way we communicate, and are continuing to do so today.
Another aspect that technology has greatly influenced is entertainment. I remember growing up as a kid, going out and playing with the neighborhood kids was about all we had to do for fun. These days kids hardly step foot outside, most of them glued to the computer or television screens. Technology hasn’t only effected the entertainment of our youth, but teens and adults as well. Everything we do these days for fun seems to, in some way or another to be connected to technology.
Nothing seems to bring justice to the effects technology have had on our lives, but when looking at daily tasks themselves we begin to get a feel for how much it has really impacted us. Starting from when we wake in the morning to laying back down at night, almost every task we complete is made easier or possible because of technology. It has made our lives easier, comfortable, and safe in ways we forget to realize. It really amazing to see how far and quickly we have advanced in technology and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. The future will be full of new technologies that we couldn’t even begin to imagine today.
Kids these days. Pttttttf! They know nothing about having good old-fashioned fun. I'm talking like I was born in the 60's but it's so true. Kids today are stuck inside the house all day. Whatever happened to playing a game of Kickball or Hide and seek with the neighbors? What happened to going to the park to go skating and playing sports with kids from the community? It just isn't the same. I have nephews and nieces who are only concerned with getting the newest iTouch or watching the latest Disney show. I don't get how things have changed, but they certainly have. I'm happy I was brought up in the ear before technology took over the lives of our youth.

I totally agree... Its not entirely there fault though. Adults and parents of today have set it up and acted in such ways to draw out these kinds of actions in kids. My neighbors have made an attempt to make the kids go out and play for at least an hour a day with no electronics or gizmo's. I think this is a great idea, because it forces kids to do something that isn't directly linked to technology.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you've said about kids. Kids as young as 5 years old sit and play on their iPhones instead of going out to play! How absurd that we have such an obesity problem in this country and for some reason kids are spending more and more time indoors doing anything but being active. Its really hard to determine the blurred lines between productivity and laziness when it comes to new technology. People used to worry about video games, but with computers, television, and now cell phones, its no wonder kids these days are having obesity and health problems from a young age.

Yea, its very unfortunate. There is really no one person to blame for it either. Over the years we have just slowly moved towards a more technologically based society, which isn't a bad thing, but does have several draw backs.
